Turmeric Latte | Vegan + Refined Sugar Free

It’s starting to get a little chilly outside.

Although coffee is usually my vice when it comes to nursing goosebumps, I wondered if I could be kinder to my body with something a little a little warmer than a cuppa.

Like a cup full of Chris Hemsworth hugs, I wanted something that could last a little longer in letting my soul glow.

I found exactly that in the bottom of a turmeric latte.

For Dad’s birthday last weekend we celebrated on the Gold Coast along with my sister and her boyfriend.

The weather was dreadful when we arrived on the Saturday: absolutely pouring down with rain, it was pretty disappointing to say the least.

Alas, when we woke up on the Sunday of his birthday, the sun was shining and promised a beautiful day. That it was:

It’s crazy how weather can set the vibe from the moment the sun rises.

We’d planned to go to The Cardamom Pod for Dad’s birthday breakfast – it’s a favourite little cafe on the Gold Coast which offers a full menu of vegan meals.

But my sister had a better idea: instead, we’d surprise Dad with a breakfast cooked in the apartment.

So, the three of us (my sister, her boyfriend and I) ventured down to the supermarket on the Saturday evening to collect ingredients, and then snuck them back into the kitchen.

Sunday morning, as the sun began to light up the beach, we all got to work in decorating the apartment with streamers and party hats and prepared breakfast before Dad was allowed to come downstairs.

It was so perfect.

I’m so glad my sister suggested it.

I think that a home-cooked breakfast was a much better way to start the day: we could make our way out of bed at our own leisure and without worrying about beating a crowd or waiting for food. And we could do so in our pyjamas.

Not to mention, food always much more enjoyable when it’s prepared at home with care and love.

We did go out to The Cardamom Pod for lunch, though. While we were there, my sister’s boyfriend ordered a turmeric latte – something I’ve seen pop up on my Instagram feed but I’d never had a go at making.

It inspired me to create my own when we got back home. I was very pleased with how it turned out, so here’s what I came up with:

Turmeric Latte {vegan + refined sugar free}
Makes 1, easy peasy hug in a mug.


Cup filled with milk of choice (I’ve used unsweetened almond and Vitasoy’s coconut milk)

Splash of vanilla extract

Turmeric powder


Minced ginger

Maple syrup to sweeten (optional – I didn’t do this and still adored my latte!)


1. Combine your ingredients in measurements according to taste.

2. Place in microwave for a minute, stir, return to microwave for 30 seconds.
Alternatively, simmer all ingerdients on stovetop.
